“The Fit For God’s Love Story”

I recently shared this message at international conferences; and women of every race, culture and socioeconomic status could identity with this life-changing message of a woman’s heart. I served over fifteen years in women’s ministry addressing issues of the inner heart; I once struggled with deep issues of my heart that caused depression, anxiety and using food as comfort; and recently my mom faced a medical crisis of her heart. Therefore this message was created from my deep heart-felt passion. My mother had been complaining of unusual symptoms for a while. Doctors performed many tests in the past, but didn’t discover any medical conditions. Then her twin sister had two heart attacks and bypass surgery. After this, my mom insisted on further testing for her heart. Doctors discovered she had the same condition—coronary artery disease. Her condition was so severe she was immediately admitted into the hospital and scheduled for bypass surgery. My mother’s medical crisis was shocking to everyone who knew her, including her doctor. Although she was over seventy years old, she was in great physical condition; and was known for her high-energy and vibrant personality. Like many women, she suffered in silence for years with heart disease because her symptoms were subtle and overlooked.
Likewise, many women suffer in silence with spiritual heart conditions. We serve multiple roles as wives, mothers, grandmothers, mentors, co-workers, supervisors, and servers in ministry; yet we can smile on the outside while struggling with turmoil and pain on the inside. Marriage, family, children and relationship problems cause extreme hurt and anguish that lead to heartbreak. Hurt from the past, life’s regrets, and disappointments can haunt us daily. The feelings of betrayal, loneliness, abandonment, failure, and rejection can force our hearts into spiritual cardiac arrest. Our hearts are often fragile as we walk our daily path of life wearing so many different hats and caring for others, as we suffer in silence. But this is not God’s will for our lives.
After my mom’s first surgery, her heart stopped and she was revived with CPR; then she was rushed in the operating room for a second surgery. That night was one of the most challenging experiences of my entire life. We didn’t know whether she would survive or not. After my mom’s second surgery, my sister and I stood waiting by her bedside. When she first opened her eye, she piercingly stared into my eyes and said, “Your heart is so precious to God. Please take care of your heart.” Her voice was low and scratchy from the tube that was in her throat earlier and she was drowsy from the anesthesia. Yet she emphatically and repeatedly spoke these words. She continued that God loves me so much and my heart was a precious gift from Him. Then she urged me to promise that I would protect it with everything that was within me. Her conclusion of the whole matter was, life is so short; and God wants us to live a life full of genuine joy, hope and vitality right now. Although our mom had undergone a life-threatening crisis of her heart; surprisingly, she came out of surgery with our inner hearts on her mind.
My mother’s heart condition was one of the greatest turning points of my life. This could have been the last time I saw her; yet she chose to share these words with me in case she didn’t make it. Later, I prayed for answers. It was powerful! My mom’s medical condition conveyed a deep spiritual message. Much healing had taken place in my past; but God revealed additional inner blockages that prevented me from experiencing my best life. It was my time to receive a greater breakthrough. I discovered we can experience God’s fullness right here, right now—by choosing to live heart smart. Today, I have an innate passion to share this powerful life-changing message with all women! It was birthed from much heartache and pain: my aunt’s pain, my mom’s pain and my own inner pain. However, our pain was not in vain. Not only that, after this life-threatening experience my mom had a renewed appreciation for life; and she focused on the things that mattered most. Although her physical heart was revived; it was as though her inner heart was rejuvenated.
As our true Heart Specialist, God wants to do the same in our inner hearts. When we lift our hearts to God to empty out the old; He revives our hearts with the healing power of His incredible love. We become free to receive our calling; and to fulfill our God-given purpose with genuine joy and vitality! God created women as beautiful vessels to pour out His life, peace and hope wherever we go—home, work, church and the community. With a healthy heart God can use us in ways we never imagined to make a difference in the lives of others. God wants to inspire a quality of women whose genuine beauty and passion for life provoke others to desire the God we serve.
After addressing painful issues of the heart for over 15 years serving in women’s ministry; and after experiencing my mother’s recent crisis, I was deeply inspired to address this major issue of a woman’s heart. In addition, I know first-hand how issues of the heart affect every area of our lives. In my past, my petite size five skyrocketed to an unhealthy 200 pounds because food became my drug of choice to sooth the issues of my heart.
